Lagrangian-based analysis of Kuroshio flow induced transport in the South-China Sea

Abstract

We will use novel Lagrangian techniques to process drifter, HF radar and 3D numerical model data in order to elucidate advective transport associated with the Kuroshio. The results will provide new insight on the evolution of the Kuroshio as it passes across the Luzon Strait and support field programs. The proposed research develops a collaboration with National Taiwan University regarding the Taiwanese HF radar network (TORI) for monitoring of ocean-surface Lagrangian transport structures.
