Self-biased dual stimulation (vibration+magnetic field) energy harvester for wireless structural health monitoring sensor nodes

Abstract

For this ONR project, Virginia Tech and the Korea Institute of Materials Science seek to advanceimplementation of self-powered structural health-monitoring nodes by: providing fundamentalunderstanding of the laser sintering process for thick piezoelectric films grown on magnetostrictivesubstrates, developing a high-power-density dual-stimulation energy-harvesting structure, andintegrating the harvester with structural health-monitoring nodes and with the external load. Thiseffort builds on a 3-year collaborative research effort between these institutions.
