Novel Tough and Durable AF/FR Coatings via Self-Stratification

Abstract

The project will have two main focus areas: 1) Further investigation and optimization of the base siloxane-polyurethane fouling-releasecoating system to obtain improved fouling-release performance and 2) Exploration of methods to use the concept of self-stratification todevelop tough coatings having an amphiphilic surface, to incorporate fouling deterrence into the coating system. This second goal willalso include the introduction of a non-isocyanate polyurethane coating system. Coatings will be evaluated first in the lab (in-house) witha variety of bacteria/diatom/barnacle assays and then promising coatings will be tested at other ONR test sites.
