Minimally Adhesive, Advanced Non-toxic Coatings of Hydrogen Peroxide Catalysts in Sol-Gel Matrices
Abstract
The following tasks are planned for year 1 of this project:1) Performance of TTiP/C8/TEOS xerogels with different ratios of components (1-20 mole-% TTiP, 30-49 mole-% C8, 40-50 mole% TEOS) will be examined as catalysts for the activation of hydrogen peroxide in model halogenation reactions with and without hydrogen peroxide.2) Performance of TTiP/C8/TEOS xerogels with different ratios of components (1-20 mole-% TTiP, 30-49 mole-% C8, 40-50 mole% TEOS) will be examined in laboratory assays with and without hydrogen peroxide for AF/FR behavior toward algae zoospores, barnacle cyprids, diatoms, and tubeworms.3) Performance of TTiP/C8/TEOS xerogels with different ratios of components (1-20 mole-% TTiP, 30-49 mole-% C8, 40-50 mole% TEOS) and with added photosensitizers will be examined in laboratory assays with and without hydrogen peroxide for AF/FR behavior toward algae zoospores and sporelings, barnacle cyprids and juvenile barnacles, diatoms, and tubeworms with different light levels.4) The most promising formulations will be coated on 4~ x 8~ fiberglass panels for field tests.5) Performance of transition metal alkoxide/TEOS xerogels with different ratios of components (1-40 mole-% transition metal alkoxide (V, Mo, W, Zr), 60-99 mole% TEOS) will be examined as catalysts for the activation of hydrogen peroxide in model halogenation reactions with and without hydrogen peroxide.6) AF/FR performance of transition metal alkoxide/TEOS xerogels with different ratios of components (1-40 mole-% transition metal alkoxide (V, Mo, W, Zr), 60-99 mole% TEOS) will be examined with and without hydrogen peroxide and with different levels of light for their effect on settlement of algae zoospores, barnacle cyprids, and diatoms and the adhesion of algae sporelings, juvenile barnacles, and diatoms.
