MOORED MEASUREMENTS OF LEE WAVES AT WEST MARIANA RIDGE

Abstract

The Flow Encountering Abrupt Topography (FLEAT) DRI seeks to understand eddying flows and internal lee waves resulting from mean and mesoscale flows transiting steep undersea ridges. Several recent DRIs have examined analogous tidally modulated flows in the South China Sea. This proposal requests to expand our FLEAT efforts to allow better collaboration with ongoing synthesis efforts with other ONR investigators in the South China Sea. Specific efforts will include 1) shipment of additional equipment and personnel, including travel, needed to operate that additional equipment to better resolve lee-wave phenomena; 2) additional analysis effort for the PIs.
