Spatially and Temporally Agile Optical Communication Links for Maritime Applications

Abstract

Research and development in the area of underwater communication shall be conducted for use in Navy applications. Clemson will develop a high bandwidth underwater communication link using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) with the potential data rate of 100 Gbit/s and scalable to Terabits/s. This scalable platform will exploit the concepts of OAM, for space division multiplexing (SDM), polarization division multiplexing (PDM) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). These methods will be explored for their information and power efficiency for maritime environments.
