Integrated Active and Predictive Condition Monitoring of All-Electric Drivetrain Systems

Abstract

The techniques developed under this project will be validated through two separate case studies of over-actuated systems: an induction machine electric drive, and a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) consisting of batteries, ultra-capacitors, and flywheels. These studies will be conducted initially using simulation models of electric drives and HESS developed at Michigan under previous ONR projects. Furthermore, results will be experimentally validated using the Electric Drive with Hybrid Energy Storage (EDHES)test-bed developed at the Michigan Power and Energy Laboratory with support from an ONR DURIP program. The final report of this project will include a comprehensive analysis of the impact of distributed energy storage on the shipboard power system.
