Northern Arabian Sea Circulation â## Autonomous

Abstract

The proposed project would extend the currently funded project to perform in the Northern Arabian Sea Circulation autonomous research (NASCar) DRI to include the development of an air-deployable tidegauge. The current generation of temporary tide gauge buoys is expensive at roughly $150,000 per unit. Furthermore, there are a few issues with their use. In particular, they are subject to theft or vandalism. Others have been damaged by fishing boats using them to moor up their vessels. There is a huge cost saving versus the teams going ashore to install them in some locations. An air-deployable tide gauge would obviate many of these problems and be approximately ten times cheaper.
