Structured Learning for Scene Understanding Workshop, 2016
Abstract
Objective:To hold a workshop on the latest advances and future directions in structured machine learning for sceneunderstanding.Short work Statement:To hold a one-day workshop on the latest advances and future directions in structured machine learning for sceneunderstanding. This workshop also serves as the second review for the BRC Structured Machine Learning program.Approach:The PI will organize a one-day workshop on latest advances and future directions in structured learning, namely, learning complex concepts for scene understanding. The workshop will be on 29 April 2016 at Stanford University. There will be about 10-12 invited talks by leading researchers and practitioners in this area and a poster session. Participants will be from universities, industry research labs, and Navy labs. This workshop will also serve as a review for the BRC program on Structured Learning. A purpose of the workshop is to foster further collaborations amongresearchers funded by the BRC program and other leading researchers.ONR mission:This workshop addresses a research topic that is of high interest to ONR Information Dominance and Autonomy focus areas, namely, for developing improved perception for autonomous agents and for image/video analysis.Overall merit:The workshop is expected to result in faster development of novel methods for learning complex concepts needed for better scene understanding such as recognizing complex objects, complex scenes, and complex activities.
