Coupled Air Sea Processes and EM ducting Research(CASPER): Upper Ocean Processes

Abstract

This proposal is intended as a collaborative effort for a focused project entitled ~Coupled Air Sea Processes and EM ducting Research (CASPER)~ led by Prof. Qing Wang. Prof. R Kipp Shearman at OSU proposes to make a series of observations in the oceanic surface boundary layer, using ship-based and AUV glider-based sensors. The observations will characterize the evolution of the surface boundary layer, frontal structures and turbulent mixing. The proposed observations will complement the research efforts led by Prof. Qing under the MURI. Besides Navy applications, this project will also have a public purpose as it will benefit the research on air-sea interaction, environmental sciences, and weather and climate variability.
