Characterizing the Kuroshio Intrusion in the South China Sea
Abstract
The PIs propose to study eddy interactions with the Kuroshio as it passes along the steepeastern coast of Taiwan. Mesoscale and finescale processes impact the rates of turbulentdissipation in the Kuroshio front and water mass evolution during the transit northward. Inorder to resolve the temporal and spatial scales that govern these interactions, we proposeto analyze existing measurements from OKMC and OKTV, and conduct autonomous glidersurveys of the Kuroshio and eddies complementing Eulerian observations from mooringsand pressure~sensor~equipped inverted~echo~sounders (PIES).
