Enhanced ROV-Based Acoustic Reflection and Scattering Apparatus

Abstract

This research grant supports the design and purchase of components to enhance capabilities of an existing system for seabed characterization including normal incidence bottom loss and interface roughness. In particular this DURIP funding will allow for the replacement of soldered components with printed circuit boards for increased reliability. An improved video system will be integrated to replace the existing camera. Analog-to-digital conversion will be added to the ROV for recording. New connectors and underwater housing will be fitted to increase robustness of the system. The enhanced system will be used to support ONR funded research.
