Exploring the Effects of the Generalization-Discrimination Balance and Odor Availability in Odor Detection Canines

Abstract

Florida International University (FIU) will explore the capability of canines to generalize or discriminate between related target odors including single odor compounds and binary odor mixtures and varying odor availability. The project will be spread over 4 tasks; training of canines to groups of molecularly similar odors, evaluating the effect of environmental conditions on odor availability to canines, monitoring canine exposure to varying odor concentration levels and evaluating the discrimination capabilities of canines for target odor from background odors.
