EXPLOITING AMBIENT NOISE FOR COHERENT PROCESSING OF DRIFTING SENSORS

Abstract

GA Tech will execute a 6 month research effort to develop processing methodology to exploit the spatial coherent of ambient noise to enable coherent processing of a distributed network of vector sensors deployed on drifting floats. The proposed research effort will focus on the following two topics. First, experimentally measure ambient noise using vector sensors deployed on drifting floats to determine ambient noise statistics and relevant correlation lengths in coastal waters. Second, optimizing ambient noise correlation processing to correct the inherent 3D spatial uncertainties of drifting vector sensor nodes and thus enable coherent processing of the vector sensor recordings.
