2017 ROPO Kenny Lipkowitz - Examination of Molecular Recognition of Amino Acid Based Macromolecular Assemblies.

Abstract

Amino acid-based macromolecular assemblies that differentiate between enantiomericdrugs will be synthesized and tested for their ability to serve as pseudo-stationaryphases for electrokinetic chromatography. A major focus of the program is to assesshow pH influences: (i) the aggregation number of the macromolecular assemblies thatform;(ii) the binding affinities of the drugs; (iii) the charge on the amino acids and howthat influences the shape and the dynamics of the assembly including: (a) the overallshape; (b) the polarity and viscosity of the macro-assembly core; (c) the conformationsof the binding site. Both theory and experiment will be done to develop design rules forenhancing stereoselective drug binding.
