Scalable Computing via Quantum Emulation

Abstract

This proposal describes an approach for achieving scalable computing technology using classical, signal-based emulation of a quantum computer. Prior work performed by the Applied Research Laboratories, University of Texas at Austin has demonstrated the ability to faithfully emulate a gate-based quantum computer using only classical, analog electronics. This approach is limited by bandwidth requirements that scaled exponentially with the number of quantum bits. The proposed effort seeks to expand upon this work by investigating alternative approaches that promise to significantly increase the scale of such devices and provide computational power comparable to that of a true quantum computer.
