WAMII: A Whole Atmosphere Model for Ionospheric Irregularies

Abstract

We propose to develop a model for structure in the bottom-side ionosphere, including traveling ionospheric disturbances and plasma irregularities. The model will combine a whole atmosphere model (WAM), a global ionosphere model, with a high-fidelity regional model for the development and evolution of plasma structure (PBMOD). The waves from WAM will drive PBMOD to provide the spatially resolved bottomside ionosphere, permitting the impacts on naval systems such as ground-based imagers, HF radars, and GPS receivers to be determined.
