BRC FY17 Topic 6: Statistical Learning Theory of Complex Causal Models

Abstract

Causal relationships in a large, complex system predict how altering some elements of the system will impact others.The need to learn such relationships from data is acute in a variety of fields. The team proposes a prediction-drivenapproach to causal inference to deploy machine learning techniques on interventional data. The team combinesexpertise in machine learning, statistics, causal inference, and gene networks to develop intervention-basedmethodology and datasets to answer this need.
