WAMII: A Whole Atmosphere Model for Ionospheric Irregularities

Abstract

In conjunction with our collaborator, Dr. Timothy Fuller-Rowell of the University of Colorado, we propose to develop a model for ionospheric structure (plasma density irregularities like Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances ??? TIDs, and irregularities that develop as a consequence of plasma instabilities, e.g., the Kelvin-Helmholtz and Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities), particularly for the bottomside of the ionosphere, by combining a general circulation model for the wholeatmosphere (WAM) with a high-fidelity regional model for the development and evolution of plasma irregularities in the F-region ionosphere (PBMOD).
