Investigation of bottomside density variability and structuring due to TIDs

Abstract

This effort aims to quantify the variability of the ionosphere bottomside density profiles due to the passage of traveling ionospheric disturbances (TID). The effort will include the use of a first principle model of the ionosphere and an assimilation plan of ground-based measurements of large-scale and medium-scale TIDs. Another aspects of the investigations consists of searching for the cause-effect relationship between measured TIDs and Atmospheric Gravity Waves of tropospheric origin.
