Observational Benchmarks for BSION project

Abstract

The Observational Benchmarks for the BSION project will use selected TEC data sets and background high latitude ionospheric models to: 1) provide data sets for assimilation into models and to 2) establish a set of benchmarks for simulation by numerical models, with a goal of improving the state of the art in operational space weather effects modeling. The project will emphasize equatorial and polar geospace processes critical to Naval research and operation. MIT Haystack will collaborate with all team members to assess the ability of models to simulate the bottomside ionosphere.
