Tera-Scale, Energy-Efficient Wireline Communication Using Dielectric Waveguide

Abstract

This project is focused on an ultra-high-speed inter-chip data link using chip-integratedterahertz (THz) components and polymer-based THz dielectric waveguides. utilizing thebroad bandwidth o#ered by the THz wave, as well as the transmission media with low lossand dispersion, this approach enables tera-scale (>400 Gbps) data transmission with pJ/bitenergy e#ciency between standard silicon integrated circuits. The purpose of this proposal is to request funding support for various testing instrumentsnecessary to perform the characterization of the THz components and microsystems beingbuilt for the above idea, including the dielectric waveguide, on-chip THz wave coupler, broadband THz transmitter/receiver, and baseband circuitries.
