Improving Adults? Source-Based Writing using Adaptive Reading and Writing Instruction
Abstract
The project will develop an automated, adaptive intervention to improve adult literacy. The Adaptive Reading and Writing Instruction (ARWI) will allow users to choose multiple types of game and non-game practice methods that are adaptive to individuals~ needs and contexts. Such an intervention is needed because adult literacy learners vary widely in their characteristics (e.g., native language, prior knowledge). This project builds upon previous efforts to modify iSTART-2 for adult learners, and expands iSTART-2 to include sourcebased writing instruction.
