Universal streak camera system for multimodal ultrafast investigation of the chemistry and physics in high-energetic materials

Abstract

Specifically, the requested funds will be used to i) purchase a universal streak camera witha spectrograph, ii) to modify a TEM holder with fiber optics for light collection, iii) optical andelectronic components required for the construction of the interface between differentexperimental setups and iv) computer nodes to extend computational capabilities. One facet ofthis proposal, and related current work, is the development of a truly unique capability in the world, multimodal ultrafast TEM. The motivation for the proposed set of instrument enhancements is tosignificantly extend the laboratory capabilities to dynamically characterize energetic materials athigh pressures and temperatures. A number of ongoing research projects in the PIs laboratoriesare directly related to DoD research and development interests and will greatly benefit from theproposed characterization system.
