Next-Generation High Brightness Laser Diode Arrays Based on 2D Photonic Crystal Technology

Abstract

Project AbstractTitle: Next-Generation High Brightness Laser Diode Arrays Based on 2D Photonic Crystal TechnologyPI: Kent ChoquetteTo overcome current limitations of high energy lasers for DoD applications, we propose to develop anefficient, power-scalable high brightness diode laser architecture for resonant pumping of solid-stateand fiber lasers based on buried 2-dimensional photonic crystal microstructures. We will combineadvanced epitaxial designs with 2-dimensional photonic crystals and regrown heterostructures withadvanced active cooling for the target goal of 100W at 50% power conversion efficiency at 1500 nm.
