Optical and Thermomechanical Design of High Reflectivity Deformable Membranes

Abstract

Optical and Thermomechanical Design of High Reflectivity Deformable MembranesAbstractA research program is described to enable deformable mirror membranes with diffraction-limitedflatness. Optical coating optimization that incorporates mechanical stress, stress gradients, and thermalexpansion effect is a core element of the program, as is deformable mirror engineering to optimizeactuator and flexure structures and materials. Coating deposition will be investigated to create specificfilm properties and to alter the density of silica so that stable, stress-free, silica-only coatings can beimplemented.
