24th International Workshop on Oxide Electronics
Abstract
24th International Workshop on Oxide ElectronicsTransition metal oxides (TMO) present both tremendous opportunities and challenges in futureelectronic technologies utilizing them as the principal materials platform. As the DoD recognizesthe importance of TMOs to next-generation device technologies, advancing an understanding onboth fundamental structure-property relationships, which require optimization to achieve highperformanceand or multifunctional (a material that responds to more than one conjugate field, for example), and materials integration avenues is of utmost important. The project will partiallysupport the 24th Annual International Workshop on Oxide Electronics (IWOE-24) planned forSeptember 24-27, 2017, in Chicago, IL, USA. It is the premier meeting focused on recentadvances and emerging trends in the field of multifunctional complex oxides and their utilizationin electronic devices. This workshop will address interdisciplinary topics such as neuromorphiccomputation; ionic and electrochemical modification of electronic materials; nonequilbirumstates and optical control; and oxide integration into energy technologies and electronics.Covering the broad intellectual ground needed to support the utilization of functional oxides in avariety of devices, the workshop provides an holistic program, including materials design andtheory, synthesis, characterization, and device design and performance. The scope of theworkshop, thus, brings together advances in fundamental materials physics and appliedbreakthroughs in device fabrication and operation. An anticipated outcome is the formation ofnew research collaborations and the identification of emerging scientific opportunities for DoDover the next decade, which will be disseminated in written form.
