Application of Advanced Microprocessor Technologies to Ocean Autonomous Systems

Abstract

Creating truly autonomous networks of self-learning Underwater Autonomous Vehicles (UAV) will require new approaches to onboard computation, network communications, and network design. A network is not simply a matter of scaling up the numberof nodes;it scales out through the creation of new services that need to be designed differently with respect to performance, reliability, and risk. We will explore how advances in microprocessor technology will affect capabilities for autonomous, networked operations, as well as how they will present new challenges for software design.
