Numerical Modeling of High-Lift Hydrofoils and Foil-Assisted Heavy Bodies Moving on the Water Surface

Abstract

The main objective of this proposal is to carry out computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of foil-assisted blunt bodies mov"ing on the water surface. This work aims at making high-speed sailing of heavy, compact amphibious vehicles more affordable. The pri"mary hydrodynamic augmentation means will include selected hydrofoil systems. The employed computational tools will comprise commerc"ial viscous solvers, in-house potential-flow codes/reduced-order models and free CFD software.
