Sub-Terahertz-Range-Interrogated Fiber-Optic Systems for Distributed Sensing Applications

Abstract

The objective of this award is to conduct fundamental research that will lead to thedevelopment of a new sensing platform~a sub-te"rahertz-range-interrogated fiber optic sensorarray (sub-THz array)~for on-board distributed sensing applications, such as feedback"" controland hull integrity diagnostics on autonomous underwater vehicles, haptic interfaces for underwaterrobotic arms, and real-t""ime distributed measurement of the temperature profile as a function ofdepth when deployed on a surface ship or buoy.
