Simple color chart for assessing graded changes in hypoxia under training conditions

Abstract

Simple color chart for assessing graded changes in hypoxia under training conditions:Proposed here is the development of a simple color chart that would accurately assess graded changes in hypoxia. The literature suggests that hypoxia induces systematic changes in the Scone color channel of the retina. The proposed color chart would employ hues along tritan confusion lines where each segment of the chart would have a different level of chromatic contrast. Under increasing levels of hypoxia more and more of the segments would begin to look alike; at high levels of hypoxia all segments would look the same and the chart would look uniform. The color chart would be tested during hypoxic training of Naval aviators at the NavalMedical Research Unit - Dayton (NMRU-D).
