Using Context to Improve Marine Mammal Classification
Abstract
We propose to develop new methods to provide context-sensitive, species-level classification of marine mammal vocalizations. Researc"h will be conducted by a multiple-institution working group that guides two postdoctoral researchers. We will develop methods to inc"orporate automated localization of calls into classification frameworks, use contextual information such as neighboring detections t""o inform classification decisions, and exploit recent developments in deep learning that enable classifiers to incorporate contextua"l information into the learning process.
