Advanced Atom-Probe Tomograph for Three-Dimensional Studies of Structural Materials with Sub-Nanoscale Spatial Resolution and High Mass Resolving Power

Abstract

Funds are provided to upgrade an existing Atom-Probe Tomograph for the three-dimensional studies of structural materials to provide" it with superior sub-nanoscale spatial resolution and enhanced high mass resolving power.Technical POC: Dr. William M. Mullins," william.m.mullins@navy.milThis project addresses directly the PE 0601103N (University Research Initiatives) objectives for supporting multidisciplinary basic research in a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines that enable the U.S. Navy to maintai"n technological superiority, and for university research infrastructure to acquire research instrumentation needed to maintain and i""mprove the quality of university research important to the Navy. In specific, this project supports university research infrastruct""ure that is essential to high quality, Navy-relevant research; and complements other Navy research programs by supporting the purcha"se of high cost research instrumentation that is necessary to carry out cutting-edge research.
