MANNA 2017: Modeling, Analysis and Numerics for Nonlocal Applications
Abstract
Funds are requested for defraying the costs of invited speakers for participating in the workshop ""MANNA 2017"" to beheld in Santa F""e, NM, on December 11-15, 2017.The objective of the workshop is to unite the separate communities of fractional calculus and nonloc""al calculus, allowing the participants to explore differences and similarities between them. A central goal is to gather togetherse"nior and junior researchers conducting leading research on nonlocal models to exchange their recent progress andresults and to propose future research guidelines. The workshop is designed to facilitate the exchange of information across the topics above and the establishment ofconnections between topics. The goals of the workshop are to:1. establish synergies between participants working on fractional PDEs with those working on general nonlocal integralmodels;2. provide researchers at all career stages with the opportunity to present their state-of-the-art results;3. identify the most important needs and most potentially fruitful avenues for future nonlocal research and relatedapplications (this will be facilitated by the discussion session at the end of each day that focuses on a review of therecent past and near-future research directions);4. provide opportunities for junior researchers already working on nonlocal problems to publicize their work and tointeract with senior researchers from around the world. The research topics are aligned and support the research goals of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and theOffice of Naval Research. More spec"ifically, a central focus of the workshop are the objectives of the AFOSRComputational Mathematics Program (e.g. mathematical and n"umerical analysis and development of solution methodsfor fractional/nonlocal integral equations) and the ONR Applied and Computational Analysis Program (Multi-Scale/Multi-Physics Modeling section).
