Discovery of Sound in the Sea (Dosits)

Abstract

The proposed funding from ONR will provide for the continued synthesis of newly published underwater acoustic research and the development of associated summaries to be used by policymakers and other stakeholders. All proposed DOSITS activities have been identified and prioritized with assistance of the advisory panel. The proposed topics have also been informed by needs assessments of the reg"ulatory community, including the 2017 DOSITS Resource Assessment for the International Decision-Making Community conducted by the DO"SITS team. The current and successful system for peer review literature synthesis and production will be used in this follow-on work". Dr. Kathleen Vigness-Raposa from Marine Acoustics Inc. will contribute the technical guidance for URI/GSO staff, and the DOSITS AP"" will review all content and resource materials. In addition to general content on specified acoustics topics, the DOSITS team will" continue to produce and release ~Hot Topic~ content so that the regulator community will have expedient access to scientific content that can inform the current regulatory process (based on information from the DOSITS needs assessments). The DOSITS team will be r"esponsive to community needs as they arise, which limits the specific identification of all subjects for Hot Topics. However, follow"#NAME?"ing the development and execution of an annual webinar series for policymakers and other stakeholders, and additional resources and" updates are proposed herein that are based on the results of prior needs assessments and discussions with the scientific advisory panel.
