Broadband Acoustic Signal Variability in Dynamic Shallow Water Regions

Abstract

Sound propagation in the Arctic acoustic waveguide is influenced by the water column inhomogeneity of physical oceanographic parame"ters. However, accelerating changes in environmental conditions in the Arctic region necessitate new modeling of sound propagation." The CANAPE experiment was designed to study characteristics of oceanographic variability and its effect on acoustic propagation ove"r a year in the Canada Basin. A pilot study was conducted a year earlier in the summer of 2015, while full deployment of a multi-ins"titutional experiment took place in 2016. Simultaneous observations of the physical environment and the acoustic field were conducted and a rich data were obtained for analysis. This proposal addresses the processing and analysis of the entire data set including t"he acoustic and oceanographic data.
