White Paper: Cryo Compatible Photonic Neural Processing

Abstract

There is an unsolved need to process vast amounts of high speed data flowing from wideband antennas in real time, while minimizing the size, weight and power consumption of the processor. To address this problem, in this research program, a low-power cryogenic photonic processing system is investigated for processing and distinguishing signals from a microwave antenna. The pulse processing system is based on excitable photonic devices having threshold-like spiking behavior. Following processing, the output is converted to the digital domain using a JJ analog-to-digital converter.
