THIS IS AN EXPANSION ON GRANT 4720003259 N00014-17-1-2403 Establishing the Operational Capacity of the Animal Telemetry Network Data Assembly Center

Abstract

The Animal Telemetry Network (ATN) has established established itself as a leader in innovation and biologging technology and provides the opportunity to unite US laboratories and programs with a shared strategic focus and research questions at large freshwater, estuary, and seascape scale. The ATN is compling biological data from multiple taxa that will address critical questions of habitat use, marine spatial planning, climate variability, and protections from the Arctic to Mexican waters. The ATN Data Assembly Cebitat use, marine spatial planning, climate variability, and protections from the Arctic to Mexican waters. The ATN Data Assembly Center (ATN DAC) has defined the data standards necessary for documenting animal biotelemetry data streams from multiple manufacturer tag platform types (satellite, archival, acoustic tags). A central respository/portal for data collection, sharing and preservation of US animal telemetry data has been established (http://oceanview.pfeg.noaa.gov/ATN/) with collaborations between IOOS, Stanford U of US animal telemetry data has been established. The ATN DAC is now responsible for collection, archiving and dissemination of US animal telemetry data from this repository. This grant provides operational funds to continue the effort to maintain hardware and software infrastructure required to collate and distribute a national animal telemetry data set into a single repository.
