Joint EM/METOC Experimental Data Analysis and Exploitation

Abstract

Funds are provided to perform analysis and exploitation of observational data sets to determine shortfalls in existing prediction processes and prototype developments that can significantly improve the prediction processes. Refractivity inversion involves a number of components: (a) representation of the refractivity ocean environment, (b) inversion procedure selected (e.g. genetic algorithm or simulated annealing) including the forward propagation model, and (c) estimation of uncertainties associated with the parameter estimates. The latter is critical to facilitate the mapping of these uncertainties into characterizations of applied interest including the prediction of total system performance. This work will be in collaboration with researchers from SPAWAR-SSC.
