Proactive Decision Support for Human-in-the-Loop Mission Planning

Abstract

We propose an ambitious project that builds on our current work, and the lessons learned, to tackle several outstanding challenges in proactive decision support in mission planning scenarios. Our proposed tasks include (i) modulating levels of automation for personalized decision-making support (ii) supporting distributed decision making with multiple humans in the loop (iii) investigating the dynamics of adaptive decision support in active situations (iv) developing e -effective user interfaces for proactive decision supprt and (v) providing situated decision-making support in fielded navy domains. For all these tasks, we propose to develop principled proactive decision-support algorithms, implement them in the RADAR prototype, and evaluate their effectiveness with systematic human studies. We also plan to collaborate with other performers in CDM, such as SRI and PSE, to help transfer our technology to ?fielded systems in PACFLT.
