Influence of Brain State and Learning on the Efficacy of Cortical Connections
Abstract
Our research is focused on interactions between dynamic representations, activity-dependent plasticity and associative learning. We combine a range of different techniques (in vivo electrophysiology, viral targeting, optogenetic manipulation and two-photon imaging, computational modeling and behavioral analysis) to address questions related to sensory representations: how they are transformed across synaptic layers, how they are influenced by internal states, and how they contribute to the formation and recall of associative memories. For this project, we will focus on the influence of brain state and learning on the strength of synaptic connections between neurons in primary sensory cortex.
