2018 Electronic Processes in Organic Materials Gordon Research Conference and Gordon Research Seminar

Abstract

This proposal seeks ONR support for the 2018 Gordon Research Conference (GRC) and associated Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Electronic Processes in Organic Materials, which will be held at the GRC site Il Ciocco Hotel in Barga, Italy, on July 21-22 (GRS) and July 22-26 (GRC). This bi-annual GRC/GRS has a proven track record of successfully bringing together young researchers and renown experts for several days of intense discussions on all key topics relevant to organic electronics. The 2018 GRS, run by graduate student for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, will comprise introductory lectures by experts chosen to provide broad overviews of the interdisciplinary field of organic and hybrid electronics. It will also feature mentorship sessions aimed at bringing together young researchers and experts from both academia and industry, with the goal of advising on various career choices. The GRC conference, which will take place immediately following the GRS, will cover areas of traditional strength in organic electronics, such as charge carrier transport, organic semiconductor interfaces, the design of new materials and charge separation in organic solar cells, as well as areas of emerging science and technology, such as spin injection and transport, novel approaches to doping in materials and devices, the increasingly important role of organic semiconductors in bioelectronics, and fast rise of metal halide perovskites and their applications to light harvesting and emission. Considerable synergy exists between these various sub-fields and will be leveraged by this GRC. The primary goals of the conference will be (i) to foster increased interaction between researchers in these various sub-fields, leading to new collaborations and progress, and (ii) provide a platform for the young researchers from the GRS and GRC to discuss their work and ideas and network in the community.
