Lester Eastman Conference on High Performance Devices

Abstract

Abstract:Financial support is requested from ONR for the Lester Eastman Conference on High- Performance Devices, which will be held on the campus of The Ohio State University from August 12-14, 2018. This biennial conference series was originated in 1967 by Prof. Lester Eastman as the IEEE-Cornell Conference in Microwave Semiconductors and commonly referred to as the ???Cornell Conference???, shortly after he started GaAs research at Cornell University in 1965. In 2002, the conference was officially renamed as the Lester Eastman Conference on High-Performance Devices to honor Prof. Eastman, a pioneer in the field of compound-semiconductor high-performance devices. Prof. Eastman graduated 125 PhD students, more than 40 MS students, and hosted more than 80 postdocs and visiting scientists between 1958 and 2010. A substantial fraction of these students and researchers have actively taken part in shaping the more than $20-billion worldwide annual business in compoundsemiconductors today. Some of the legendary contributions from the Eastman group include high-quality GaAs epitaxy, delta doping, lattice-matched InGaAs high electron mobility transistor, transistors with T-shaped gates, ballistic devices, and polarization effects in GaN.
