Fleat Outreach-Introducing Robotics to Palu Students and Teachers

Abstract

Coral Reef Research Foundation (CRRF) willhold a three week "robotics program for teachers, high school and community college students in Palau in the summer of 2018 that will be taught by the principal of "Porpoise Robotics." Porpoise Robotics was started in 2012 with funding from the Office of Naval Research with the mission to provide high quality, hand-on robotics training. The Palau program would have three one-week components: week 1 for local teachers and weeks 2 and 3 for students with interest in robotics, science and engineering. The program will accommodate up to 48 interested students and teachers. The dual goal will be to first, train science teachers from local schools so they can incorporate robotics and related considerations into their curriculum and second, engage students interested in science and math with hands-on challenging program that may lead to their continued education in the field. At the completion of the classes outstanding students wil be encouraged to continue skills development through participation in CRRF programs with underwater robots.
