Electrochromic and Ion Dynamics of Full-Spectrum Corrosion-Protection Coatings

Abstract

Funds are provided to synthesize Fe, Cr and V doped oxide coatings inspired by gemstones providing the basis for electrochemical modulation, perform basic redox electrochemistry to study the fundamental EC modulation behavior of oxide coatings, and to investigate ion transport in EC coating and solid-oxide ion conductors to understand rate-determining step for color switching to achieve both optical properties far superior of those found in natural compositions along with multi-color tuning within a single gemstone coating layer.
