Hybridization of Automated Tape Laying and Fiber Placement for Increasing Efficiency of Complex Composite Structures

Abstract

The primary goal of this research is to develop an optimized hybrid AFP-ATL process for producing efficient composite structures using in-process guidance systems and machine-learning algorithms. Secondary goals include development of process optimization/simulation and analysis methods, and efficient tooling concepts as well as improved layup protocols, inspection techniques, and structuralconfigurations suitable for the hybrid manufacturing technique.
