In-Envelope Hybrid ManufacturingTechnologies for lower-cost, rapid manufacturing of complex functional parts and prototypes

Abstract

This proposal is to purchase a LASERTEC 65 3D Hybrid™ Powder Fed Laser Beam Deposition Welding system to conduct much-needed research (qualification, repair, development of analytical models) in the field of “in-envelope” hybrid manufacturing systems. This machine will support existing research work done on the research institute’s EOS M280™ and RPMI 222™ metal additive manufacturing machines, thereby providing a unique combination of materials research, analytical modeling and design optimization. This purchase will accelerate needed naval research and open up opportunities for industry and academia.
