Alaska Regional Collaboration for Technology Innovation and Commercialization (ARCTIC)
Abstract
ABSTRACT: The Alaska Regional Collaboration for Technology Innovation and Commercialization (ARCTIC) was developed through the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to promote commerce and partnerships in theArctic and Pacific regions centered on resiliency research, technology development/deployment and education. This Scope of Work covers research, testing, deployment, and related education/outreach activities conducted through the Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) at the University ofAlaska Fairbanks (UAF), building on prior years~ work. In addition, this Scope of Work covers new activities through the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Business Enterprise Institute (BEI), in support of advancing Alaska~s entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem. Four over-arching objectivesshape our vision for the ARCTIC program: 1) Demonstrate that 50% penetration of variable renewable energy on microgrids is technically and economically feasible, and broadly replicable; 2) Demonstrate economic and technical feasibility of locally appropriate and innovative energy solutions for the Arcticregion and beyond; 3) Enhance local sustainability by extending and leveraging local know-how;and 4) Support the diversification of Alaska~s ecosystem.
