Naval Deep Ocean Raman In Situ Sampling (NavDORISS)

Abstract

The NavDORISS effort will modify an Office of Naval Research government supplied equipment Raman Spectrometer, an appropriate CCD Camera and main pressure housing to accomplish the proposed missions as outlined in the proposal. The effort will include exploration of enhanced ruggedized cabling to reduce laser excitation power losses and maximize returning signal strength. Additional effort will be the design, build and test of an auxiliary tool for sniffing the water in the general areas of deep ocean operations or by means of manipulation to sample specific target areas as directed by the operator. The modified equipment, the resulting analyzed data and a final report will be presented to the Office of Naval Research at the conclusion of this effort.
