Real-time Dynamics and Communication Network for Understanding Human-AI Coordination Dynamics in Team and Multi-team Systems
Abstract
The purpose of this proposal is to (1) provide connectivity between geographically distributedUnmanned Air System (UAS) synthetic task environments (CERTT labs) and (2) provide realtimedynamics analysis modules with the flexibility to connect to other task environments. For(1) we propose to acquire communication networking architecture that would allow for voiceover IP communication within the Georgia Tech CERTT lab and voice over IP and chatconnectivity between the Georgia Tech CERTT lab and the DoD funded ASU CERTT lab. For(2) we propose to implement algorithms developed by PI Gorman in MatLab in C# which wouldallow for a scalable real-time analysis suite for co-located and distributed CERTT labexperiments and potentially other task environments. These extensions to the current GeorgiaTech CERTT lab would enable research on complex tasks that are relevant to DoD including:distributed human-human and human-AI collaboration; transitioning from outcome- and/orprocess-based post hoc team performance assessments to real-time indicators and tracking ofteam and system coordination and effectiveness, and providing real-time analyses of multi-teamoperations in a networked battlespace. These extensions to the Georgia Tech CERTT lab wouldalso enable training undergrad and PhD students on the usage and development of real-timemetrics for understanding coordination dynamics in human-human and human-AI teaming in amilitary-relevant task environment.
